Seven Things You Must Give to Others If You Want to Achieve Success!

January 5, 2010 – 12:46 pm

By Chris Widener

A major part of the process of achieving success and living the kind of life that you dream of is to give. Many people think that to get what you want you have to take it. There is a universal truth though that the true path to get what you want is to give. When you give, you get. What you sow, you shall reap. If this is true, then what is it we must give? I’ll show you the way…

Give Others Your Honesty
The world we live in has a simple rule that most follow: Lie when you have to. Unfortunately, this may make some people wealthy but it makes us humans poor. To achieve success is to become wealthy not only in money, but in character. To be successful, truly successful, is to be able to attain your goals and keep your character at the same time!

“Honesty is the single most important factor having a direct bearing on the final success of an individual, corporation or product.” —Ed McMahon

Mr. McMahon is right, though others will tell you otherwise. Some people will say, “You have to bend the truth to get ahead.” Not true. Some of the most successful people who have ever lived were honest people.

How about you? Are you honest in all things? The problem with little lies is they become big ones. Lies spin out of control. You get caught in one lie and you lie to get out of it, etc.

In all things and at all times, give others your honesty.

Give Others Your Respect
Most of the time, we give people respect based on what they have done or what they have accomplished. We gauge whether or not they are “worthy” of it based on what we know of what they have achieved or who they know or are related to.

But I believe we should have a higher standard. We respect people not for what they have done, or for who they are related to, or for what they can do for us. Instead, we respect people for simply being.

What would happen in our world, in our company, and yes, even in our families, if we started with respect for everyone else rather than making them earn it? I think we would see that most people would live up to the respect that we give them!

Give Others Your Vulnerability
We are taught to “be strong.” And yes, we should be strong. But we have also embraced something that I think keeps us from having the kind of life that we long for. It is an attitude that keeps us from experiencing the kind of relationships that would bring deep meaning to us. It is our attitude about vulnerability.

“Make yourself vulnerable and people will step all over you!” It is true that this will happen. But I have also seen that most people will be drawn to you. They will help you. They will open up to you. You see, we are all broken people inside. We all have secrets. Yet everyone plays the poser. When one lets down his veil, others soon follow—and we all win.

Give Others Your Care
Too many people are running around this old earth not caring about others. The days of “Look Out for Number One” and “Winning through Intimidation” are over! Let’s bring about a new day when we can care about others AND succeed!

Take the time to show people you care. Listen to them. Empathize with them. Love them. Now, I don’t mean that you have to go around hugging everyone—that probably wouldn’t fly in corporate America anyway—but we can take some time to step back from business and be human! And I have found that when we do so, our business succeeds as well!

Give Others Your Passion
There is nothing this world needs more than passionate people. And people need passionate people. Living in this day and age can be tiring. The hustle and bustle of it all can wear you down and tire you out. Give your passion to others and fire them up.

Don’t just be humdrum. Be excited. Give people all the energy you can muster. And you will find that energy reciprocal. They will get energized and passionate. This in turn will fire you up more when you are already charged and get you going when you don’t feel like moving at all!

Give Others Your Experience
We all have areas that we excel in and they are usually areas that we have experience in. One of the things we can do to make our lives more meaningful and be of utmost help to others is to show them the way through the experiences we have.

Sometimes it will be what they should do: Shortcuts to take, people to meet, etc. Sometimes it will be what they should not do: Shortcuts not to take and people to stay away from! Whatever it is, we can be of service to others by giving them our experience and ultimately it will make us all better!

Give Others Your Help
All in all, what we want to do is to help others. Zig Ziglar says that if we will “help others get what they want, we will in turn get what we want.” If we want to be successful, we should consider ourselves servants of other people. What can we do to help them and make them better? This is the true path to greatness and success, not only in business but in life!

If you want to live the life you have always dreamed of, ask yourself if you:

Give Others Your Honesty
Give Others Your Respect
Give Others Your Vulnerability
Give Others Your Care
Give Others Your Passion
Give Others Your Experience
Give Others Your Help

“Somebody says, ‘Well, I can’t be concerned about other people. About the best I can do is to take care of myself.’ Well, then you will always be poor.” —Jim Rohn

Values

The major value in life is not what you get. The major value in life is what you become. That is why I wish to pay a fair price for every value. If I have to pay for it or earn it, that makes something of me. If I get it for free, that makes nothing of me.

All values must be won by contest, and after they have been won, they must be defended.

Don’t sell out your virtue and your value for something you think you want. Judas got the money, but he threw it all away and hung himself because he was so unhappy with himself.

Values were meant to be costly. If it doesn’t cost much, we probably wouldn’t appreciate the value.

Count the cost first. Don’t pay too big a price for pursuing minor values.

Success Through Goal Setting

Brian Tracy Editor’s note: Today’s article has been guest-written by none other than Brian Tracy, best-selling author of The Psychology of Achievement.

Brian has consulted for more than 1,000 companies and helped more than four million people achieve their goals through the many seminars and talks he gives annually.

… And today he’s going to help you!
Make sure you read to the end of this article because Brian offers you a great free gift at the end — you won’t want to miss it!
So without further ado, here’s Brian… People often ask me what the most important quality for success is. Throughout my career I have worked with hundreds of supremely successful people and they all had one easily identifiable trait in common: They all knew how to set goals for themselves and work hard to achieve those goals.

The ability to set goals and make plans for their accomplishment is the “master skill” of success. It is the single most important skill you can learn and perfect. Goal-setting will do more to help you achieve the things you want in life than will anything else you’ve been exposed to.

And yet according to the best research, under 3 percent of Americans have written goals, and under 1 percent review and rewrite their goals daily. Most people don’t understand the importance of setting goals, or they don’t know how to do it. Or maybe they’re simply afraid of failure.

Today I would like to share with you five key concepts that will help you to reach your goals more effectively. Each of these keys starts with one of the letters in the word “GOALS.” Whenever you find yourself getting off the track, simply repeat the word “goals,” and think about how each letter stands for a key that just might apply to your current situation.

G = Get to It!

Sometimes, the only difference between a successful person and a failure is that the successful person has the courage to get started, to do something, to begin moving toward the accomplishment of a specific goal.

You may have a long-range goal. In order to achieve it, you need to sit down and make a list of all the steps that you will have to take to get from where you are to where you want to be. Then begin with the first and most obvious thing that you can do on that list. Complete it, and then start on number two.

Don’t worry about the long term. Just concentrate on the obvious first step that you can take. Surprisingly enough, everything else will take care of itself.

The Confucian saying, “A journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step,” is so popular in so many languages because it is so true.

O = Opportunity

Successful people do not wait for opportunities to turn their goals into reality. Instead, they make their own opportunities, because they are perfectly clear about the kind of life they wish to create.

Once you have taken the time to decide exactly what you want, you will experience an endless flow of opportunities that will help move you in that direction.

A = Ability

Many people hesitate to set high, challenging goals because they lack the ability necessary to turn those goals into reality. But remember that we all lacked knowledge and experience when we started out in our careers or fields of expertise.

Since you gain the ability necessary for high achievement through knowledge and experience, if you increase the speed at which you acquire both of those, you increase the speed at which you move ahead.

L = Leadership

Leadership is simply the ability to get results. And you begin to get results when you accept full responsibility for yourself, for your job and for the outputs required in your position.

You demonstrate leadership when you refuse to make excuses or blame anyone or anything for the problems you are having. The acceptance of the responsibility of leadership enables you to move ahead and take action.

When you are not satisfied with your job or income, and you sit down and make a written plan to change it, and then take action on that plan, without waiting for anyone’s approval or permission, you are behaving like a leader.

S = Stay With It!

Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles. The bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have, and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else.

When you look around you, you will see that all achievement is the triumph of persistence. You will see men and women everywhere who are struggling with and overcoming adversities in order to accomplish something that is important to them.

… And so can you.

Goals enable you to do the work you want to do, to live where you want to live, to be with the people you enjoy, and to become the kind of person you want to become. If you set your goals and create a plan that will help you achieve those goals,  nothing can stop you from finally winning through.

To learn more about how you can radically improve your life through goal-setting, please accept my free report, Goals!, as a special gift to you.

The report breaks down my proven goal-setting process into easy steps that will help you achieve the life you want faster and more easily than you ever thought!
